Success Skill #6: Gentleness (Gal 5:22-23)

The Bible admonishes us to be “Wise as serpents, harmless as doves” (Matt 10:16) The devil was a serpent, and the dove, obviously is a sign of gentleness and peace. What does it mean to be gentle? I guess it means a bunch of different things to different people. It means being soft when we give someone news they’d rather not rather hear. Whether it means telling them that a loved one died, or is hurt, or if it means, telling them no, or if it means telling them something about himself  they’d rather not hear. It means having a gentle touch. It means being good to people even when we don’t want to be. It means withholding our anger, and changing our thinking–often times mid thought.

Gentleness means a soft touch, but also a soft touch with your words. I’m not saying to lie or sugarcoat things. But to me it means, that sometimes when I get fed up with people, I can communicate with people, and say “I’m not trying to sounds like I have a bad attitude, or tone with you, and yes I am stressed but the last thing I need or want is more talking. I care about you, but I can’t always communicate because I’m like you, I need to work. I hope I explained that so you can understand what I mean.”

I’m not really sure I’ve explained this enough, and a lot of times, it’s just a feeling. Please help me out, and let me know your thoughts on this.

Love and prayers,

Liberty!
